Naval museum of the Northern Fleet

Exposition of the history of the Russian Fleet of 1696-1917. (at the submarine К-21)

The history of the Naval museum of the Northern Fleet started in the years of the Second World War with collection of materials about famous pilots, submarines, marine infantrymen, divisions and formations of the Northern Fleet, which were presented at the exhibition "Battle actions of Naval Fleet in the Second World War" in the Palace of Officers in Polyarny. In 1944 all the collected displays were given to the Palace of Officers in Murmansk.

On the 16 of October the first exposition "Defence of Soviet Zapolyarye in the period of the Second World War" was opened here, created by the first director of the museum F.P. Drachkov, decorators V.I. Shilkin, P.G. Izotov and the others. At present the museum is in the same building.

Exposition in the museum tells about the creation of the Russian Fleet on the North, about the Northern Fleet, participation in the Great Patriotic War, development of fleet in the post war period. There are materials about the first commanders of the Northern Fleet Z.A. Zakupnev, K.I. Dushenev, twice heroes of the Soviet Union B.F. Safonov, A.O. Shabalin, V.N. Lenov. There is the works by sculptor L.E. Kerbel, who served in the Northern Fleet during the Second World War. The special place in exposition takes Modern Ocean Fleet. The workers of the museum conduct research work collecting information about fleet history, its present condition, and famous people. There are more 50 thousand displays in the museum. Every year about 5-6 exhibitions take place in the museum.

The museum conducts active publishing activity and enlightening work among the population and completment of the Northern Fleet. In the halls of the museum young worriers of the northern seas swear under oath traditionally.

The museum has two branches: in Severodvinsk of the Arkhangelsk region and in Severomorsk, where you can see Submarine of the red banner "K-21", torpedo boat № 12, strafer IL-2.
