1938

May, 28. By decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR the Murmasnk region was founded.

1939

February,1. Murmansk Region Drama Theatre was opened.

February,23. 'Severonikel" plant produced first part of nickel.

September,14. Murmansk Marine Arctic Shipping Company eas founded.

November,13. Committee of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR on teh Murmansk region decided to open Institution for teachers training (evening courses), it was the first educational institution in the region.

1941

June,22. Military law took place in the Murmansk region.

September,5. The formation of Polar division of militia was started and in 10 days it had a fight.

1942

January,11. The first ally caravan with military cargo came to Murmansk.

May,18. Restoration of "Severonickel" plant was started.

1943

August,10. Restoration of "Apatity" plant took place.

1944

October,7-29. During the Petsamo-Kirkiness operation Nazi troops were outlawed the boundaries of the Murmasnk region.

December,5. The Medal "For Defence of Soviet Zapolyarye" appeared, more then 300 persons were decorated with it.

1945

May. The Murmansk Trade Port finished the reloading of last caravan of vessels with cargoes from allies.

July,21. Pechenga district became the part of the region.

1946

November,19. Restored plant "Pechenganickel" was put in operation.

1949

April, 26. The administration herring fleet "Murmanseld" ("Murmanribprom") was founded.

August,7. The town of Olenegorsk was founded.

December,21. Hydro power station Niva gave first industrial current.

1950

September,1. Some lessons in Murmansk Higher Seafaring College started.

1951

January,28. Aluminium plant of Kandalaksha gave its first production.

April,18. Vaenga village was transformed into the town of Severomorsk.

September,15. Lovozero ore mining and processing enterprise was put in operation.

1952 December. Last hydro power station of Niva cascade (Niva HPS - 1) was put in exploitation.

1953

July,8. "Apatitestroy" trust was founded.

1955

October,20. Knyazhya Guba hydro power plant gave its first current.

November,1. Olenegorsk ore mining and processing enterprise was put in operation.

1956

June,5. The building of the town of Zapolyarny started.

1957

March,27. The working village close to Olenya Satation was trasnformed into the town of Olenegorsk.

November,6. Murmansk TV station started to work.

1958

January,1. Murmansk publishing house was founded.

1960

May,6. Nuclear power icebreaker "Lenin" came to Murmansk port.

Summer. Olenegorsk plant of sand-lime brick produced its first products.

1962

February,11. The first trolleys appeared in Murmansk.

February,20. House building plant started to work in Murmasnk. Summer. Kovdor ore mining and processing enterprise was put in operation.

1963

February,1. Working village Zapolyarny was transferred into the town.

June, 23. The first portion of ANOF - 2 was given by "Apatity" plant.

September,12. Borisoglebskaya Hydro Power Plant was put in operation.

1965

January,1. "Sevribkholodflot" fleet was founded.

September,20. Working villiage Kovdor was transferred into the town.

October,27. Verkhne Tulomskaya HPS was put in operation, it was built in coperation with Finnish builders.

1966

March,2. The Murmasnk region was decorated with Order of Lenin for the successes into the development of national economy.

July,7. The Town of Apatity was founded.

1971

February,11. Murmasnk was decorated with Order of Red Banner of Labour.

1972

January. The mine "Vostok" was put in operation in Pechenga district.

1973

June,29. Kola nuclear power plant gave the first current. The second aggregate was put in operation on 30 of November of 1974.

1975

May,1. New nuclear power icebreaker "Arctic" came to the Kola Bay.

1977

August,17. Icebreaker "Arctic" reached the North Pole in free voyage.

1982

December,2. Murmansk was decorated with Order of the Patriotic War of the I Class.

1984

October,17. Knadalaksha was decorated with Order of the Patriotic War of the I Class.

1985

May,6. Murmansk was given an honoured rank of "Hero-city".

1987

May. The Murmasnk regional children library was opened.

May. Nuclear power icebreaker "Sibir" made a journey to high latitudes of Arctic.

1990

Elections to local authorities on the alternative base took place.

1991

April,22. Working village Polyarnye Zory became a town.

1995

October. The first international investment conference "Possibilities of the regions of the North" took place in Murmansk.

1996

November,17. Democratic elections of the head of the Administration of the Murmasnk region and the heads of municipalities took place in the Murmansk region.

1997

October, Long term agreement about the separation of authority objects and power among the bodies of state authority of the RF and the Murmansk region.

November,26. The Regulations of the Murmansk region were established.
